In Mumbai, engineers from the BMC road department who were sent notices for not addressing pothole complaints have provided their explanations. They cited that many roads were not under their jurisdiction and belonged to other agencies. They also mentioned that in some cases, contractors responsible for project roads had not completed repair work, leading them to engage their own contractors. Additionally, they mentioned being preoccupied due to the Prime Minister's visit to the city.

The BMC administration cautioned the engineers to ensure timely pothole repairs to avoid further notices and potential consequences. Twenty-three road department engineers were issued show-cause notices for the delays. To oversee the situation, the BMC appointed 227 sub-engineers, each responsible for monitoring a 9km network. Notices were also sent to the sub-engineers inquiring why action should not be taken against them for similar delays.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Engineers' Union had requested the BMC chief not to demoralize the staff with punitive measures. The union highlighted that engineers worked long hours, including weekends, and suggested organizing them into two shifts due to the heavy workload. They also proposed a meeting to discuss the challenges faced by the engineers. Furthermore, the union mentioned that ongoing Metro construction works required roads to be maintained by their designated contractors according to the issued NOCs.
